Here at the Brown Trout we pride ourselves on our selection of trout and salmon reels. Whereas most salmon reels have a modern disc braking system to facilitate playing larger species of fish- allowing the angler more control over his opponent, trout reels tend to be designed on a traditional click and pawl system, where the purpose is more to contain the line. Reels tend to become part of what one's pleasure is in fly fishing- they become old friends, and many a happy memory of epic struggles with fish are relived purely by taking one's reel out of its bag at the begining of a new season in anticipation of things to come. In both cases a reel is often considered to be what is loosely known as "Gentlemens Jewellery" This is because many a reel is gifted to an angler from his/her partner to commemorate some special occasion.
