River Nidd Report

30th June 2009

The River is running at summer low and with the weather being very hot and sultry it is best to fish early morning or late afternoon into dusk, even with the weather being like this there have been good catches of trout last week, I was fishing one day last week and very small olives were coming of with small Iron blues so what ever you think fly wise is up to you but G.R.H.E. caught some fish as did a small wet Greenwell’s glory. And a Iron blue emerger tied Klinkhammer style also did the trick. The weather forecast is for a very warm week with heavy isolated showers so give it a go and if you get caught in a shower it will refresh you and it won’t take long for you to dry out.Tight lines

River Nidd Report

22nd June 2009

What a week the May fly season is on its way out but last week saw plenty of action with mayfly spinners coming onto the water during the evening and Trout walloping them I think if you put any sort of large dry fly on you would have had a good  evenings fishing.

Well that was last week and the weather forecast for this week is for hot dry days so I think the rods will do best early morning and from tea time right up to dusk which will give you plenty of time to catch these lovely Nidd brown trout,

Fly’s for this week try grey duster, daddy longlegs and claret hopper, gold ribbed hares ear, and pheasant tail nymph.

Hope you all have a good weeks fishing.

River Nidd Report

15th June 2009

Another good week on the Nidd last week, a lot of fly activity due to the warm weather and the May fly hatch, I was fishing with a friend and were catching on a few different fly’s, from a size 6 may fly Nymph down to a size 18 Iron blue dry, the fish were all over the river and it was the same on Sunday night after some heavy rain.

The River was slightly up this morning but was in good condition for the fly fishing, we have had a thunderstorm this afternoon but these sharp heavy showers shouldn’t spoil the fishing this week but may make things better as when the Mayfly spinners return to die  a heavy shower can knock them down onto the river in large swarms and this causes a fish frenzy, the weather forecast is for heavy showers for the early part of the week to die down and become warmer as the week goes on, so get your rods out and catch some Browns but don’t forget if it is a electric storm stay inside with your carbon rods until it has passed over,

Heres for a safe weeks fishing

RIVER NIDD REPORT

8TH JUNE 2009

Following on from last week the river has been fishing very well, last Monday it was back to normal and fish were taking the mayfly nymph fished upstream just under and on the surface, and this week should see the fish taking the spent spinners during the evening, this is the time on the Nidd when you get chance to hit one of the  large Brown Trout that do occupy the river, a few years ago the Nidderdale Anglers found a dead brown Trout estimated to be around the 16lb mark, alright you may not think you will catch a fish of this size in the Nidd but if you catch a fish around the 3lb mark on a small rod and light tackle it will give you a good battle that you will remember for a very long time.

The weather forecast for the following week looks not to bad so tight lines and hope you have a good week on the Nidd.

NIDD REPORT

1 JUNE 2009

Well after last weeks bad weather this weekend saw very hot sunny days with the fish

Mainly being caught early morning and evening, Trout don’t like these bright conditions and you will be very lucky to catch during the times of 11am and 4pm and as nights are now fishable up to 10-30 there is still a lot of fishing time available, I went for a walk along the river last night and the mayfly are starting to come off quite nicely but the fish at this time of the season are mostly talking the mayfly nymph,

So upstream nymphing weather it be floating or just under the surface film, this is the tack tick to use.

Now that the green drake mayfly hatch is under way the next few weeks should be quite interesting

Tight lines

Most of last week was a wash out due to heavy thunderstorms and murky river conditions. The weather report for the week ahead is good, so dig out your Mayflies and get fishing!! Sorry for the short report, away on holiday.

NIDD REPORT

18 MAY 2009

River conditions have not been good over the past few days with thunder storms all around the river catchment area that have led the river into unfishable conditions. Chocolate coloured water running about a foot over summer level means no fly fishing for the next couple of days. When the river drops and becomes clear, the fishing will pick up as the Mayfly period gets into full swing.I have seen quite a few Mayfly on the river over the last few days so the fish will soon be on them as well as good numbers of Yellow Sally's and Crane Fly.Let's hope the weather picks up soon!

NIDD REPORT

12 MAY 2009

With the River running low, the fishing is still very good but the problem last week was the wind, which could return at the end of this week.A North East wind does put the fish down, but when it drops and the sun comes out, the River comes alive.I myself caught some good fish last week on a Klinkhammer and their was good hatches of Hawthorn fly's, Sedges, Meduim Olives, Iron Blues, Cran fly's and the odd Mayfly.

If the cold wind stays away the fishing will be good, so tight lines!

NIDD REPORT

4 MAY 2009

The River has had a small lift over the weekend and is now running at 3'' above summer level. With this weeks weather very changeable, teams of spider patterns and nymphs will work best. Waterhen Bloa, Snipe and Purple, Partridge and Orange in wets and GRHE and Pheasant Tail in Nymphs.

The River is running clear at the moment and with the forecast for light showers only, shouldn't effect the fishing this week.Good numbers of trout were caught last week, many to the Klinkhammer, and with the Mayfly coming within the next couple of weeks, the fishing should only get better.Yellow Mays always come off before the main Mayfly hatch so I use a yellow bodied Klinkhammer with a blue Dun hackle to good effect.

If the river does colour up try using a couple of attractors such as a Peter Ross or Teal, Blue and silver.

Here's hoping for another good weeks fishing!

RIVER NIDD REPORT

29 APRIL 2009

With the river running at summer level, the fly fishing has been very good over the last week. Plenty of trout were caught using teams of spiders and nymphs, the main patterns been snipe and purple, waterhen bloa, partridge and orange, grhe and pheasant tail nymph.

At this time of year you often don't see a fish rise until about dinner time, so I always put on a weighted fly on the point and a couple of droppers with spiders on and fish this until you start to see fish moving near to the surface.

If the weather keeps dry and warm, we should start to see the Grannon sedge. This is the first big meal of the season for trout and can be imitated by using a GH sedge with a green tag on the butt or a klinkhammer with a green tag on the bend.

Tight lines for the coming week
